Link Age Southwark is a local charity providing a range of services to older people and people living with dementia. This Christmas, the charity is taking part in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge 2021 to raise £26,000 in just 1 week! The focus of their campaign is ‘reconnecting older people to their communities’ and funds raised will go towards the charity’s transport services.
The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign, taking place from midday on Tuesday 30 November until midday on Tuesday 7 December. During this week, any donations made to Link Age Southwark, up until their target is reached, will be DOUBLED!
Prior to the pandemic, the charity ran 24 social, exercise and activity groups, and over 250 service users benefited from them per year. They also provided 4000 transport journeys for service users, to and from these groups, in the year before the pandemic. The team are now working hard to encourage older people and those living with dementia to re-engage with Link Age Southwark’s in-person groups. Their provision of transport includes volunteer drivers, escorted taxis and an accessible minibus.
